The Bane Badín complex and the cable car
Brown coal mining, featuring the Jozef shaft, 120 metres deep, and a cableway running through the village.
Between 1837 and 1929, brown coal was mined in the immediate vicinity of the Rakytovce cadastral area. The Badín mine was one of the most important industrial enterprises in the area — side adits branching off from the main shaft extended directly into the Rakytovce cadastral area.
The 120-metre-deep Jozef shaft is a symbol of the mining era. Next to the mine stood miners’ quarters, administrative buildings, a three-metre-high steel winch wheel, a power unit and a well by the mine stream. The mine employed dozens of local residents.
A cable car (colloquially known as a ‘šodronka’) ran from Rakytovce via Krásny vršok, over the cemetery and the River Hron, all the way to Vlkanová, where the mined coal was transported. Mining came to a definitive end in 1929. Today, the Na Bani amphitheatre stands on the site of the mine.
