The Ujhelyi Family Tomb
The family crypt of the lords of Rakytovce in the local cemetery, damaged during the fighting in 1945.
The Ujhelyi family — the original landowners of Rakytovce — had a family crypt built in the Rakytovce cemetery in 1869. The cemetery stands on land donated to the village by Count Ujhelyi himself.
The last person to be laid to rest in the crypt was the sister of Šándor Ujhelyi, the last male descendant of the family, on 21 December 1934. During the liberation of Rakytovce in March 1945, the tomb was damaged by an artillery shell.
Despite the damage, the tomb still stands today. It is looked after by the local Riečanovec family, which is testament to the enduring bond between the village’s inhabitants and its historic landowners.
