Kečka Quarry
The limestone deposit on Kečka Hill — stone from Rakytovce was used to build roads throughout the region.
The limestone deposit on Kečka Hill (496.5 m above sea level) in the north-western part of the Rakytovce cadastral area has been mined since the 19th century. The village used two quarries — soft stone from the Dubina site and hard stone (colloquially known as ‘štamploch’) above Teremová’s garden.
Material from the Rakytov quarries was used in the construction of state roads, the regulation of the River Hron and, in the 1970s, also in the construction of the motorway. The quarries were a major employer and a source of income for the village.
Today, Doprastav operates an active quarry on Kečka Hill, near the Rakytovský Stream. Limestone quarrying continues, and the quarry remains a prominent feature of the Rakytovce landscape.
