Márnica — the original wooden bell tower
The remains of the village’s oldest religious building — the original wooden bell tower in the cemetery.
The original wooden belfry stood at the upper end of the cemetery and housed a bell cast by Ján Juraj Knobloch in 1783 in Banská Bystrica. It was the oldest religious building in the village.
In 1931, the belfry partially collapsed. The bell was moved to a newly built brick belfry in the centre of the village. The remains of the wooden belfry were used to build a mortuary — a room next to the cemetery used for the temporary storage of the deceased prior to burial.
The mortuary at the cemetery is still in use today. It stands as a silent reminder of Rakytovce’s oldest place of worship — the wooden bell tower that stood on this site from at least 1783.
