Watermill (Teremov Mill)

The derelict watermill on the Rakytovský Stream — the hub of the village’s social life.

Miesto zaniknutého vodného mlyna v Rakytovciach

The watermill near Horné Rakytovce, on the Rakytovský stream, is recorded both in the Josephine survey (1769–1784) and in the second military survey (1819–1858). It was therefore one of the oldest farm buildings in the village.

In the 20th century, the mill was owned by the Terem family, after whom it is still known today as ‘Teremov Mill’. The mill was not merely a farm building — it was an important centre of social life in the village, where people from the surrounding area would gather.

Today, the mill no longer exists. In the topographical descriptions of the parish, it is referred to as the ‘site of the former Rakytov mill’. However, the site is still recognisable in the landscape and serves as a reminder of the village’s economic history.
